Western County Review

Write for us

Western County Review welcomes considered pitches about county geography and place literacy. We are interested in clear, self-contained ideas that help general readers understand a landscape, settlement, boundary, route or place name without turning one example into a rule for everywhere.

What to pitch

Propose one defined subject and the question the article will answer. A strong pitch says what a reader will learn to notice, which county or geographic feature is in scope, and why the subject works as an evergreen explanation. We welcome explanatory, comparative and historical approaches where the central idea is clear.

How to make it useful

Use plain language, distinguish evidence from interpretation, and explain the limits of a map or example. A pitch should stand on its own without requiring first-hand testing or specialist status. Do not send material that depends on unverified local claims, professional advice or instructions for safety-critical work.

Send a proposal

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, a short summary, the intended reader and any relevant experience with the subject. Please send a proposal rather than a complete unsolicited article; a submission is not a promise of publication.

Our point of view

A map is a starting point, not the whole place.

Western County Review looks past labels and lines to the land and connections behind them. We separate what a map shows from what a reader might infer.
